2014 World Cup in 3 Weeks!

The World Cup is probably the only occasion where nationalistic pride is actually a good thing. No sporting event has a greater impact in a country than the World Cup. Even if you don’t like soccer, there is no reason why you should not root for your home team. I actually feel bad for the players who will be playing in Brazil, because they have to bear the burden of their countries and people. Everyone remembers the tragic story of Columbian player Escobar, who was murdered by his country’s drug lords after he accidentally scored an own goal to doom his team’s chances.

Americans tend to dismiss the World Cup, mostly because they usually don’t do well in it. However, I am sure they will tune in in droves if the team advances into the final or better yet wins the whole thing. A historic victory in Brazil could even help soccer supplant football as the king of American sports. Americans love a winner after all. The World Cup will start on June 12 in Rio, Brazil.
