Confederations Cup 2013

I am a big fan of international soccer, though am a bit indifferent to club competition. The pride of representing your country always trumps the passion for your club. I don’t recall the last time I missed out watching an international tournament; I even watched the Asian Cup on Japanese TV! The World Cup is next year, but there are two major events this year – the Confederations Cup and the Gold Cup. The former is an exhibition tournament featuring all six continental champions, Euro runner-up and the WC host country. Unfortunately, the U.S. narrowly missed out on a spot; they lost to Mexico in the final of the 2011 Gold Cup despite going up 2 goals to none on El Tri. Oh well, I guess you can’t win it all. At least they will be at full strength for this year’s Gold Cup.

With only 8 teams, the Confederations Cup is a very short tournament. In the U.S., ESPN and its sister channels will show all the games live. You can check out the 2013 Confederations Cup TV schedule on my website. I will be watching this from start to finish. Hopefully the quality will be good.
